Fighting Fifth for Camden Mclellan at MXGP Round One
Racing Triumph Motorcycles 3rd Mar 2025

Monster Energy Triumph Factory Racing’s Camden McLellan has begun the 2025 MX2 World Championship with a strong fifth overall at the opening round of the season in Argentina. McLellan’s teammate Guillem Farres also impressed in his first Grand Prix with the team, finishing seventh overall.

The 2025 MXGP season kicked off for all riders and teams at a new venue near the city of Cordoba. With a wide, flowing layout that was littered with plenty of sizable jumps, conditions were perfect on Saturday, although heavy rain on Sunday morning made for a challenging and technical circuit for the opening race.

Starting outside the top 10 resulted in McLellan delivering a race-long charge in moto one. Picking off his rivals as he worked his way up the leaderboard, he reached eighth at the halfway stage. With the top five in sight, the South African kept charging aboard his TF 250-X and moved into sixth after passing Liam Everts. McLellan then made a pass on his teammate Farres on the penultimate lap to secure a hard-fought fifth-place finish.

Eager to impress in race two, McLellan once again found himself just outside the top 10 after the start. With the Cordoba race track now a lot drier, there was little to separate the riders, and Camden couldn’t quite reach the top five in this moto despite his best efforts of racing in the energy-sapping heat. Crossing the line eighth secured fifth overall on the day and the 20-year-old sits sixth in the MX2 World Championship.

Just like his teammate, McLellan, Farres delivered a solid ride in race one. Starting in the top five ensured he stayed out of trouble through the early laps, and he then maintained a strong pace to the finish. Running fifth for much of the moto, he dropped back to sixth when McLellan passed him in the closing stages.

The Spaniard couldn’t quite replicate his race one start in moto two and ran 12th for the whole race before moving into 11th with a couple of laps remaining. Farres placed seventh overall for a solid debut ride with the team and he now looks forward to his home GP in two weeks’ time where he’ll arrive placed 10th in the early season standings.

Camden McLellan

“So that’s the first GP of the season done and it’s been pretty good. The track was great and super fun to ride and I’ve really enjoyed the trip over here. In the qualifying race I got caught up in two crashes so that wasn’t ideal, but today was much better. My speed and fitness are good as I showed in both races and my bike was just awesome. Thanks to the team for building such a great bike and their hard work this weekend, and now we head back to Europe, healthy and excited for Spain.”

Guillem Farres

“The weekend didn’t start so good in the qualifying race but in today’s races I rode quite well. We had a lot of rain this morning but in the end the track turned out quite good. In race one I was sixth so I was happy with that but I had a bad start in race two and that made it a tough race. Before the next race I’ll be working on my starts and as it’s my home GP, I’m really looking forward to it.”

Vincent Bereni – Monster Energy Triumph Factory Racing Team Manager

“That’s round one over and I think we’ve put ourselves in a good position, especially after both riders had a difficult qualifying race. With the weather, the track was different for each moto so the mechanics worked really hard to refine the bikes for each time the riders were on the track. And the riders were happy with their bikes all weekend, so that’s a really positive thing we can take away from here. Fifth and seventh overall is a strong start to the season and even though it wasn’t a podium like round one last year, both riders scored good points at what’s been a really challenging first GP of the year.”
