Tom Booth-amos Returns to The Podium at Magny-cours

The World Supersport Championship returned to action this weekend after its summer break with Round 9 taking place at Magny-Cours in France, where the PTR Triumph team were left celebrating after Tom Booth-Amos returned to the podium in today’s Race 2 aboard the Triumph Street Triple 765.
Having qualified ninth in yesterday’s Superpole, Booth-Amos had a strong start off the line for the opening race of the weekend. Using the power of the Street Triple 765’s engine, he soon set about picking off his Supersport rivals and moving his way through the pack to eventually cross the line sixth.
In today’s 19-lap race Booth-Amos lined up 12th on the grid and with some work to do to move into the group ahead, the British rider got his head down and by mid-race he was in a group battle in sixth place. Continuing to make up places, the podium was in sight and with just four laps remaining Booth-Amos was third.
Holding off a chasing pack for the remainder of the race, the PTR Triumph rider claimed the third place podium spot and returned to the rostrum for the first time since Donington Park. The results from the weekend see Booth-Amos move into third in the overall standings, 130 points shy, as the championship goes into the second part of the season.
Meanwhile, despite a difficult weekend having not been able to complete a qualifying lap due to an incident with another rider, Booth-Amos’s teammate Oli Bayliss continued to make progress and delivered two strong and determined rides.
Scoring points in Race 1, the Australian crossed the line just outside the top 10 in 12th place having made up an impressive 18 positions across race distance. Again, starting today’s race from the back of the grid Bayliss showed fantastic pace as he made his way through the pack to come home in 10th place.
The PTR Triumph squad will now look forward to the next round which takes place at Aragon on 26-28 September.
Tom Booth-Amos - Race 1: 6th | Race 2: 3rd:
“Overall a much better day today to come away with a podium. I am very happy because I didn’t expect it to be honest, I struggled all weekend. Credit to the guys, they pulled it out of the bag; I had to work for it but I did what we had to do to maintain third in the Championship. Hopefully we can make further progress to have a bit better weekend in Aragon.”
Oli Bayliss - Race 1: 12th | Race 2: 10th:
“It was a frustrating kind of a weekend. We had a pretty good Free Practice, and as we all know, we got taken out of the first lap of qualifying so we had to start at the back of the grid. We were really close to making the lap time in race one to start one of the first nine in race two, we just missed out so we had to start at the back again. We made good progress throughout the race, finished tenth. We were really fast at the end of the race, it’s annoying because I think we could have had some really good results but we are just going to have to try again next time.”
